Marists schools join in the commemoration of the School Day for Peace and Non-Violence.
Celebrating the “School Day for Peace and Non violence” and committing to developing citizenship skills on a daily basis is essential in our schools in order to promote learning and skills to act as responsible citizens.
The School Day of Peace and Non violence has been commemorated since 1964 on the 30th January, the anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi, a pacifist leader who defended that “There is no way to peace, peace is the way”.
All the Marist educational works join in one way or another to this celebration every year with different activities and actions. A dove cut out of a piece of paper, hands that cross and seem to fly, drawings, videos… No great things are needed to celebrate this day, but we do need to take time to reflect on the importance of peace.
In this sense, looking at the Sustainable Development Goals, we look at Goal 16, which calls for “promoting just, peaceful and inclusive societies” and we do not forget children’s rights such as the “right to participation of children and adolescents to express their opinion in matters that affect them”.
