We are pleased to present the educational proposal that the Marist Provinces of the European Region will promote as a common motto during the school year 2023-2024! A motto created with the aspiration to respond to the reality in which we live. If we take notice of the media and social networks, we might be tempted to see only the downside of the current events of our region: social tension, polarisation, political and ideological extremism, the duty to assume a radical stance as “haters” or “supporters” and the obligation to define difference from an extremely superior or inferior point of view.
Inspired by Jesus
The Marist aim is to be a home where there is room for everyone and where everyone can feel safe: cared for, welcomed, taken into account, accepted with their differences… And not only in each school or local reality, but as members of a large global family. This is a principle inspired by Jesus and the way he welcomes people and accompanies them, even those who are socially discriminated. He is our example of genuine attention for each person and of inclusive vision. It is also un experience to which we have been called in our recent Marist writings, we aim to be “homes of light” and beacons of hope.
Safe environment
For everyone to feel at home they must feel protected and safe. Therefore, we are committed to ensure and promote the well-being of children and young people, to defend their rights and to create safe environments. We have given special attention to training and awareness-raising for the entire educational community in order to prevent and detect any kind of abuse. We have been working to develop protocols for action, to support children and youth and to guide the families. It is an environment in which we guarantee appropriate treatment for everyone, particularly for children and for those who may be at risk.
This is more than a motto, it is a principle that we carry in the depths of our being. It is knowing that along with the Marists, genuinely and with all that implies… you are at home. It is a place where there is a sense of belonging and participation, a fundamental part of your identity. This is not just another house, this is your home. You are at home!
