The Marists participated in the XV International Congress on Abused Childhood “Walking in the good treatment”, which was held in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain) from 5 to 7 May.
Presentations, communications and round tables focused on how to promote good treatment in institutions and entities, how to break stigmas, how institutions apply child protection policies and how to always put the good of children and adolescents at the center. In short, a meeting of all the agents involved in child care on the need to recognize good treatment not as a goal to be achieved but as a reality from which to work against child abuse.
One of the presentations of the Congress was given by Lorena Formoso, from the Province of Compostela, coordinator of the CONTIGO Team for the Protection of Children and Adolescents and counselor at the Maristas Cristo Rey School in A Coruña. Lorena presented the Contigo Project and explained that the protection of minors is an institutional commitment that involves all the people linked to educational works. This commitment involves taking all necessary measures to promote the welfare of minors, protect them from any harm, exploitation and abuse and defend their rights. It also means paying attention to the training and awareness of the entire educational community for prevention and detection, protocols for action, support for the victim and advice for the family.
The congress was organized by the Federation of Associations for the Prevention of Child Abuse, FAPMI, in collaboration with its federated entities.
