As the Marist Educational Mission states, we are “disciples of Marcellin Champagnat, brothers and laypeople, together in mission, in the Church and in the world, among young people, especially the most neglected. We are sowers of the Good News, in a distinctive Marist style, in schools and in other educational fields. We look to the future with boldness and hope”.
The heart of Marcellin’s mission was “to make Jesus Christ known and loved”. Father Champagnat’s great desire and legacy is that we relate to one another and to young people as members of a loving family. We make our own his thought that “to educate children well we must love them, and love them all equally”. According to this principle, our educational style has a series of traits of Marist pedagogy which are: presence, simplicity, family spirit, love of work and following the model of Mary. She is the first disciple and educator of Jesus, who guides our way and inspires our teaching. We try to adopt these attitudes and values as our way of inculcating the Gospel, which implies educating according to a christian conception of the person, of life and of the world.
In Marists we commit ourselves in schools and other educational structures, in order to live for the Kingdom, in service to people. Within that service, and as a fundamental objective of our founder, is to make children and young people “good Christians and honest citizens”. We seek to be a significant presence among them, close to their reality through listening, understanding and dialogue. To this end, we opt for a model of integral education that encompasses all areas of personal, family, social and professional life and all dimensions of the person. Education in the sense of transcendence occupies a prominent place in this comprehensive education proposal. In short, educating for life, projecting our educational action beyond the classroom, being much more than classrooms.
The Marist school is a place of learning, of life, of evangelisation. As a school, it teaches students “to learn to know, to do, to live together, to be”. As a Catholic school, it is a place of community in which faith, hope and love are lived and transmitted. The Marist Region of Europe has a total of 91 educational works in 15 countries. It is present in the Marist International Networks of Higher Education Institutions (IES Network) and of Publishers (with Edelvives), as well as being part of the project to launch an Global Marist Network of Schools to strengthen our educational mission and to demonstrate our commitment to the Global Education Pact promoted and launched by the Pope.
