Solidarity is a hallmark of our Christian and Marist DNA. We feel called to “recreate the Montagne experience out of fidelity to Christ and to the Founder, to educate in solidarity and for solidarity as a powerful instrument of evangelisation. And to evangelise as the best service we can render to humanity” (XXI General Chapter of the Marist Brothers).

In the European marist provinces, we implement initiatives that make our commitment to the poorest visible, and we experience the joy of helping people in vulnerable situations. Throughout the school year, we carry out various activities in our educational centres aimed at helping organisations that work locally or internationally with people in difficulty. There is a direct collaboration with our social works and, in the case of Spain, with the Marist NGO SED (Solidarity, Education and Development). There are also local plans in the schools to help those most in need.
Faithful to the spirit of our origins, numerous social works for the needy or for marginalised minorities have flourished all over the world. One of the initiatives at the international level is the FMSI (Marist International Solidarity Foundation), an NGO recognised by the United Nations with more than 10 years of experience working in the field of international solidarity.
In Spain, the aforementioned ONGD SED stands out, which works mainly promoting the Right to Education in Africa and Latin America, as well as in some Asian and European countries.
