In the Marist Region of Europe there are more than 800 brothers living in 110 religious communities spread throughout Europe; in the countries of Spain, Portugal, Romania, France, Greece, Hungary, Algeria, Italy, Lebanon, Syria, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands.
We are brothers of Christ, brothers of all, especially of the poorest and most needy, so that greater brotherhood may reign in the Church and in the world. We follow Jesus Christ by public profession of the evangelical counsels, and we shape our lives in fraternal service.
The Marist journey includes the following stages: discerning a vocation, applying for entry into formation communities, living a time of novitiate that culminates in the profession of vows or commitments, continuing a period of academic formation for the tasks to be carried out in the following years, and beginning our direct dedication to children and young people in the most diverse situations, aware that our service is of inestimable value.
Born of the Spirit, the mission that Marcellin entrusted to his brothers was “to make Jesus Christ known and loved”, seeing in education the means to bring young people to the experience of faith, and to make of them “good Christians and honest citizens”. We Brothers are committed, along with other Marists, to the education and evangelisation of children and young people, especially the impoverished, the most needy, and those living on the geographical and existential peripheries.
From Saint Marcellin Champagnat we inherit the virtues of humility, simplicity and modesty. Inspired by the house of Nazareth and the table of La Valla, our fraternal life is marked by “family spirit”, which is made up of love, forgiveness, mutual support, self-forgetfulness, openness to others and joy.
