Lay Marists are Christians who have heard in our lives the call of God to live the charism of Champagnat and, from the lay state of life, we respond to it.
At present, there are more than 79,000 lay Marists around the world who collaborate in the various works and, as disciples of Marcellin Champagnat, we take on the mission of witnessing to the Marist charism and being sowers of the Good News.
The lay vocation is expressed in many groupings. Since 1985 there has been the Champagnat Movement of the Marist Family, an international movement with 260 fraternities and about 4,000 members in different countries.
In addition to the fraternities, other groupings are present in the works, such as the youth communities, the Life Groups, the Marist Spirituality Groups, the Marist Encounter Groups, the Marist Christian Communities of Reference, the Lay Associates, among others.
Mixed communities of brothers and lay people have been formed in several countries, sharing life, spirituality, charism and mission. At present there are 25 mixed communities with about 110 people at the international level.
In the Marist European Region, a network of eight interprovincial Marist communities has been formed which generate and nurture Marist life and mission in Europe in all its diversity. Some of these communities are inter-congregational between Marists and De La Salle.
